ABOUT LIVING-ROOM DANCERS
Dance is their passion; they dedicate a good deal of their free time to it. “They” are the protagonists of Living-room dancers, creation in the form of a choreographic walk through the city. Encountered through announcement postings or by word-of-mouth, these passionate individuals practice tap-dancing, electro, salsa, Argentine tango, expressive dance, samba, pole dancing etc. In Living-room dancers, each one inhabits a private apartment that has been transformed into a dance-floor for the evening. These normally very intimate moments are perceptible from street-level with the help of binoculars and MP3 players. Living-room dancers confront private and public spaces, while playing with our appetite for voyeurism and exhibitionism.
Along with the walk through the city, a film and/or a video installation which presents portraits of each of the various dancers in the performance, is presented in a participating theater. Why do you dance? Why is dance important to you?
Choreographer Nicole Seiler has created Living-room dancers in 2008 in Lausanne, Switzerland. Since its creation it has been touring around the world staging passionate dancers from different backgrounds, cultures, dance styles and age groups.
Within these years of touring the number of interviews has grown to a big collection that is disiplayed in this archive and made accessible to the public.
ABOUT NICOLE SEILER
Nicole Seiler created her company in 2002. Her research into video and choreography has led to the creation of innovative works, dance and multimedia, videos, choreographic installations, performances and site-specific works that aim to keep the audience active in their interpretation of the work. Since 2010 her research focuses mainly on the relationship between image and sound and led her to explore the description of movement, from both a historical and personal point of view, but also more generally to question how image and sound connect in our memories. Since 2004 the company tours internationally.
